Welcome to an experiment-driven journey into the world of electricity, automation, and robotics! This course is designed to take students from lighting their very first LED to building a fully autonomous, light-seeking robot.

 

Instead of just memorizing textbook formulas, students will act as real hardware engineers. They will build, measure, and troubleshoot real circuits using a solderless breadboard and a multimeter. By the time they open the final robot kit, every single component will feel like an old friend rather than a mystery on a circuit board.

The Learning Journey

The curriculum is divided into six progressive modules, followed by a final engineering capstone project:

  • Module 1: Basic Components – Students master the basics of electrical current, component polarity, and how to safely control electricity using resistors.

  • Module 2: Sensors – Young makers explore how machines interact with the physical world by converting environmental light into measurable electrical signals.

  • Module 3: Semiconductors – Introduction to the building blocks of modern computers (diodes and transistors) to create automated electronic switches.

  • Module 4: Capacitors & Timing – Students learn how circuits store energy and create time-based behaviors, like fading lights and custom delays.

  • Module 5: Timers & Oscillators – Working with integrated circuits (the NE556 chip) to generate repeated pulses and control the rhythm of electronics.

  • Module 6: Motors & Robotics – Interfacing control circuits with mechanical movement to safely drive, reverse, and control the speed of motors.

The Ultimate Challenge: The Light-Seeking Robot

The entire course culminates in a Light-Seeking Robot Engineering Challenge. Before picking up a soldering iron, students will apply everything they have learned to predict, test, and document their robot's behavior. They will characterize the sensors, measure motor power, and assemble their vehicle with complete confidence in how it works.
